Audio (Earpiece and Microphone)
I can't hear anything on a call (earpiece)
Quick checks
Restart your phone first — this clears a lot of audio routing issues
Turn call volume up: while you're on a call, press Volume Up
Turn Bluetooth off: Settings → Bluetooth → Off (audio can route to AirPods or your car without you realising)
Check the earpiece mesh at the top of the phone for lint or dust
Things to AVOID
Don't poke anything into the earpiece mesh — pins, needles, paperclips, toothpicks. You'll push debris deeper or tear the mesh
Don't use any liquids or solvents — water, soapy water, acetone, bleach, window cleaner. Liquid contact of any kind can cause internal damage and will void your warranty
Don't use compressed air or a vacuum — compressed air pushes debris further in; a vacuum can dislodge components
Don't apply heat — hairdryer, heat gun, radiator, microwave. Heat damages internal components and adhesives
Don't use hot glue to try to "peel" dirt out — it leaves residue and makes things worse
Clean it safely
Use low-tack tape (masking or painter's tape): press it lightly over the mesh and lift off. Repeat a few times. That's as far as it's safe to go at home.
Send it back if
The earpiece stays silent after cleaning and a restart
Both the earpiece and loudspeaker are silent after Bluetooth is off

iPhone loudspeaker doesn't work (speakerphone)
Quick checks
Restart your phone first
Check the mute switch on the left side of your phone — if it shows orange, slide it towards the screen to unmute
On a call, tap Speaker, then press Volume Up
Check the bottom speaker grille for lint or dust
Clean with low-tack tape: light press, lift off
Normal behaviour — don't panic
Most iPhones only output sound from one of the two bottom grilles. The other side is usually mic holes, not a speaker. If one side sounds silent, that's likely why.

The Speaker button is greyed out or you can't select it during a call
Sound is distorted or crackly after cleaning and a restart

People can't hear me on calls
This is usually a blocked mic, a case covering the mic holes, or Bluetooth routing.
Quick checks
Restart your phone first
Turn Bluetooth off (Settings → Bluetooth) and test a call again — audio may be routing to a connected device
Remove your case and screen protector and check none of the mic holes are covered
Check the microphone openings for lint or dust — clear gently with low-tack tape only, don't poke anything into the holes
Open Voice Memos, record 10 seconds, play it back. If playback is faint or silent, it's mic-related
Send it back if
Voice Memos records silence or very faint audio after cleaning and a restart
Callers still can't hear you after Bluetooth is off and your case is removed
