What is Apple CarPlay and why should you care?

Apple CarPlay is a great feature for a car to have, it is a smarter and safer way to use your iPhone in the car, without getting too distracted. Apple CarPlay takes your iPhone and essentially puts it on your cars built-in display while you’re driving.

The Apple Carplay takes the apps off your iPhone and simplify’s them, making them quicker to use. It’s aiming to cut down the amount of people ‘needing’ to use their phones wile driving. Making it easy and quick to use on your cars display, causing less distraction.

You can get a variety of features onto the screen including directions, making calls, sending messages and multimedia applications. Apple CarPlay also works with your cars built in controls, allowing you to keep your hands on the wheel more often than not.

Apple CarPlay is compatible with any iPhone from the iPhone X to the iPhone 5. See below for my list of the best apps for Apple CarPlay.

Apple CarPlay Spotify

Spotify

Spotify music contains millions of songs, podcasts and albums of your choice, there is a free version but it does have ads. The premium version allows you to download songs, so you don’t have to use your data and gives you unlimited ‘skips’ so you can fully control what you’re listening to. The music quality is also fantastic and is the best music streaming platform on offer today if you’re not into Apple music that is. The premium price starts from £7.99.

Maps

Maps is not an app you have to download, it will already be on your iPhone, it is really good on Apple CarPlay and eliminates the need for a satnav in your car. The tracking and directions are very accurate and it will also display the road speeds and how far the next turn/direction is. Maps are essential for drivers who drive to new places all of the time.

Apple CarPlay Audible

Audible

If you are a user of Audible, you’re in for good news, it is available on Apple CarPlay and is great to use. The audible app on CarPlay even syncs to when you were last listening so you can continue from where you left off. Audible offers all of your potential favourite genres too, including psychological thrillers, horrors and many more. Listening to a podcast on a long journey could be what’s missing from your life, listening to your favourite podcast/book could help relax you on these journeys and help you enjoy driving.

Apple CarPlay iHeart Radio

iHeart Radio

iHeartRadio gives you the opportunity to not be stuck with the same AM and FM radio stations in your range that you are sick of, iHeartRadio streams radio stations from all around the world. It allows you to listen to, for example, a sports radio station across the other side of the world. You can also create your very own personalised radio stations and listen to podcasts through the app. This app is free but will involve ads and only a certain amount of skips.
